Daniel Negreanu vs Phil Ivey Top Poker WinningsClash of the Titans January 2011 Update
In 2010 Daniel Negreanu was unable to hold onto his top position in the PokerPages all time money list. In January of 2010 these two poker giants were separated by less than $200,000. A lifetime's earnings for some people but a mere buy in for Daniel and Phil Ivey.
As early as late January Phil Ivey overtook Daniel when he won $502,925 at the Aussie Millions. Daniel was never able to get into a groove and despite winnings of over half a million in 2010 the lead never changed and at year end it was Phil Ivey who lead the race by a very convincing $600,000+
As we enter 2011 it is amazing to me that these two players are still atop the Worlds greatest poker players in the PokerPages all time money list. We are going to continue this epic battle through 2011.
In early January Daniel Negreanu wrote his personal goals blog for 2011. Right at the top of that list #1 goal he wrote "$1 million in tournament earnings." Just a few days after writing that blog Daniel entered the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA) Super High Rollers event which required a $100,000 buy in. 38 players took part and in the end Daniel lost the heads up battle to Eugene Katchalov, however goal #1 was in the bag after just a week of January behind us!! $1,000,000 prize money for 2nd place and in Daniel's words via Twitter "A Million doesn't suck"
Daniel's goal #2: To get back on top of the all time money list. DONE!!
It looks as though 2011 could be an amazing year for Poker and these two Titans will lock horns many times I am sure. As this is written on January 12th Daniel now stands in first place with a staggering $14,131,104 in lifetime winnings from 161 major cashes and an incredible 34 first place finishes. The first man on the planet to pass $14,000,000 in tournament winnings. Almost $400,000 ahead of Ivey.
Stay tuned to PokerPages as we follow this story through 2011. Oh, the other 8 goals?
