Party Poker Parent- PartyGaming's -4% 3Q Sales Meet Co Expectations

PartyGaming PLC, the U.K.-listed online gambling group and parent of online poker site Party Poker, today reported that 3rd Quarter (3Q) sales were down 4% year-on-year to $112.7 million. This is in line with company expectations. Shares open lower than the 320p target price, and closed Wednesday at 283p.

Media Corp Buys Purple Lounge, Promises More M&A in Future

Today, Media Corporation (Media Corp), the AIM-listed advertising network and online publishing group, announced that it bought all shares of UK-based Purple Lounge Ltd (Purple Lounge), which offers online poker, card and casino games, and sports betting. After the acquisition, Media Corp will be able to market its gaming services to the United Kingdom, since Purple Lounge operates from Malta, a UK white-listed jurisdiction.

PPA's New Letter to President Says: Protect the Right to Play Poker

The Poker Players Alliance (PPA) has posted a new letter on their website to send to U.S. President Obama urging him to protect the right to play poker in the absence of a federal law against playing online poker (click here, or view below). The letter also demands that the seizure of poker player funds by the Department of Justice (DoJ) stop.

Letter Urging Delay in UIGEA Implementation Sent by Bipartisan Group

Last Friday October 2, a impressive bipartisan group sent a letter to Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner and Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke asking them to respond favorably under their Administrative Procedure Act authority to delay implementation of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) regulations for one year, until December 1, 2010. In their press release, the group's members referred to the regulations as an "unreasonable burden on regulators and the financial services industry at a time of economic crisis."

Barry Shulman Defeats Negreanu for WSOPE Title

Barry Shulman won the World Series of Poker Europe Main Event after an epic three-hour heads up battle with Daniel Negreanu. Shulman earned 801,603 GBP ($1,283,687) and a gold bracelet for his victory. Negreanu picked up 495,589 GBP for second place, enough to pass Phil Ivey as the all-time leading money winner in poker tournament history with over $12 million in tournament earnings. If Ivey finishes higher than seventh place at the WSOP Main Event, he will retake the top spot.
