NewJane Interviews Wildbill41, Won a Seat in the PSO Grand Live Tour Final 2006

NewJane: Congratulations on your excellent finish at the Live Tour event! Tell us about the event that qualified you for the Live Tour Final tourney next year.

Wildbill41: It was a $100.00 buy in (One $100.00 rebuy allowed) no limit hold-em event at Spirit Mountain Casino in Grand Ronde OR. One of the cheaper events on the PSO calendar. Maybe I am frugal. More likely I am the king of cheap.

NewJane: Tell us some interesting facts about your life, such as place of employment, family matters, hobbies, or educational background.

Wildbill41: I am a single heterosexual male, 45 years old. I have never been married and have no children. I live in Bremerton WA. I work for Exide Technologies, mostly doing technical assistance to the US Navy on Submarine Batteries, however every once in a while they farm me out to assist other customers in DC Power applications. I spend about 200 days a year on the road, traveling to Submarines in dreary locations like San Diego, Pearl Harbor, or even Guam. I have spent significant time on jobs in Alaska Japan and Spain. Sometimes I even get to meet Pokerschoolers on my travels so please don't tell my boss how many beers for these folks have found their way onto my expense reports. I am a pretty happy person overall, so I don't know what has caused all this gray hair. I don't believe I have ever written the word 'I' in that many consecutive sentences. It could be said that if there were anything interesting in my life, I might be able to keep a girlfriend. Apparently there isn't. QED.

NewJane: Give us a little glimpse into your poker background. How long have you played? Do you prefer online play or live? Where is your favorite place to play live? Do you like tournaments or ring games? What is your game of choice?

Wildbill41: I have played poker since high school. I much prefer live to on-line, because of the people factor. Tunica is the poker capital of the world. I have gotten to the point where I prefer tourneys, although low buy-in no-limit ring games have been treating me pretty well lately.

NewJane: How long have you been a member of PSO?

Wildbill41: Since November 2001. Back when the forum was fun.

NewJane: What do you think was your greatest strength in the tourney? Your biggest weakness?

Wildbill41: I was in the heads of my opponents early and often in this tourney. It is an awesome feeling when people are only calling your good hands, and folding to your weak ones.

My weakness was totally losing focus once the other PSO'er at the final table was eliminated. I stopped trying to win the whole tourney once the PSO grand final seat was decided. Stupid move on my part. If only I could get through an entire tourney without a brain cramp,

NewJane: Do you remember any key hands you want to tell us about? Positive or Negative outcomes...

Wildbill41: I never held a preflop pair higher than jacks in the 8 hours plus I played in this tourney. I was only all-in 3 times the entire tourney. From the first break until I busted I just accumulated chips. It sure is an easy game when the deck decides to hit you over the head. The only time I was all-in against someone who could bust me (before my final hand) I had the nuts.

NewJane: What are some of the differences you notice in online play as opposed to live play?

Wildbill41: I find it far easier to focus in a live game. I like to chatter when I play and I hate to type. On-line it is easier to become distracted and leak chips.

NewJane: If you could have dinner with any current poker tourney pro, who would it be and what would be the question you would ask first?

Wildbill41: Cyndy Violette. Will you marry me?

NewJane: What poker books have helped your game?

Wildbill41: Super System (both 1 and 2) Sklansky. Ciaffone on middle limit. I just ordered Harrington's book from Amazon and am looking forward to it. (New Jane's book will come in the same shipment) I read far too much.

NewJane:What new poker games are you interested in learning?

Wildbill41: Jane, the invitation for strip poker I extended last year is still open........ bring your single female friends.

NewJane: Here is your chance to address anything I neglected to ask that you are dying to share.

Wildbill41: Another thing I said last year. I have made many good friends here at pokerschool. I intend to make more. Find a way to get to the conventions. Have a blast.
