Tournament Report
Before the finale of the 2008 Foxwoods World Poker Finals $600 No-Limit Championship got
underway, the final ten participants agreed on distributing $100,000 of the remaining prize pool based on chip
counts going into the final table. The final ten then played it out for the balance of $138,227. Down to the final
two, Daniel Doherty and Fred Birchenough had compiled nearly an even chip count and agreed to share the
remaining prize pool equally. Dan, of Edison, NJ took the Championship Trophy, while Fred, of Tamworth, NH
received the commemorative leather jacket!
A total of 640 players started on Tuesday and 22 returned at noon today to compete for the remainder of
the $329,024 prize pool. The final table was decided just after 3 pm and Robert Pardo of White Plains, NY was
the first to be eliminated. Robert pushed all-in for 4K with pocket 4's and was called by Ian Palomo with 9's.
The board was no help to Robert and he collected $6,714 for 10th place. Chris Traniello moved all-in with 28K
and with three callers was taken down by John Cavanaugh's K's leaving Chris to return home to Medford, MA
with $7,727 for 9th place. Next to leave was Steven Fortunato also of Medford, MA. Steve went all-in with 10K,
received no help from the board and found himself in 8th position with $6,002.
Michael Hayes, of Ludlow, MA, took a chance with 9's but Ian Palomo's A's held up and left Mike in
7th place with $20,742. Ralph Macri's day ended when he pushed all-in with J4 suited but ran into Dan
Doherty's A's, and with no help for Ralph, he took 6th place and $15,177 to take home to Redding, CT. John
Cavanaugh moved all-in with AQ only to run into K's belonging to then chip leader Dan Doherty. The K's
held-up and John returned to Berlin, CT in 5th and $23,039.
Charles Yaghoobian, of Johnston, RI, eventually pushed all-in after the flop showed 6-2-Q, but
unfortunately was up against Dan Doherty and a set of 2's. Charles' AQ did not improve and he was left with 4th
and a $21,403 payday. Ian Palomo decided to make a move with Q5 but was way behind against Fred
Birchenough and his K's. The flop provided no improvement for Ian and improved Fred's chip stack to where he
was just a few thousand short of Dan's making their decision to share the remaining prize pool evenly and call an
end to a very rewarding event for our two finalists.
