Tournament Report

MEN 'THE MASTER' STORMS TO VICTORY & WINS $127,765!

A field of 88 players began play on Monday in pursuit of the title of the 2008 Foxwoods World Poker Finals $5000 No-Limit Championship and a prize pool totaling $409,728.

The nine players who returned at noon on Tuesday had combined earnings of over $15 million. When it was over after eight hours of play, Men 'The Master' of Bell Gardens, CA, emerged victorious. Men took proud possession of the Championship Trophy, commemorative leather jacket and $127,765!

The Final Table lost it's first player on the very first hand when Jared Okun of Las Vegas, NV would move allin with A/6. Men ‘The Master' called with A/10 and when the board came-out A/7/2/K/8, Jared would have to settle for 9th and $16,389.

The short stack, Michael Dix, was all-in shortly thereafter when he raised all-in with 9's. Raj Patel would call with A/K, and hit the Ace on the river, sending Mike back to Seattle, WA with $18,437 for 8th place. Raj Patel of Rocky Hill, CT would lose the bulk of his chip stack when he raised all-in with A/K and ran into A's from Justin Scott. Raj would push all-in once again, this time with A/9, and Chris Tsiprailidis would call with A/K. The board did nothing for Raj but resign him to 7th place earning a $20,487 payday.

After losing 3 players in less than an hour, it took just over an hour before Eric Haber, a resident of Syosset, NY, and repeat visitor to the final table for this event from last year, would move all-in with pocket 5's for 35k. Feming would call with A/10 and after hitting the Ace on the river, he would eliminate Eric from the competition leaving him with $22,535 for 6th.

Feming Chan of West Windsor, NJ would raise Justin 30k only to have Justin raise all-in leaving him to call. Justin showed 10's to Feming's A/Q and with no help for Feming, he would be relegated to 5th, earning $26,632.

Another four hours would pass before the next departure from the table. Chris Tsiprailidis would call Jeff Hakim's all-in after the dealer had flopped J/J/3. ‘Syracuse' Chris would show Q's and much to his disappointment watch Jeff flip over K's. The board finished with 5/6, resigning Chris to 4th to take $32,778 back to Liverpool, NY.

Two hands later, the final 2 were determined after Men ‘The Master' raised all-in after the flop showed 7h6dqh. Justin Scott of Redford, MI called with A/Q only to see Men flip over Kh4h for the flush draw. The turn gave Men the flush with the 2h, and Justin would settle for 3rd and $40,973 for his efforts.

Heads-up action continued for over an hour, and it was the first called all-in that completed play. Jeffrey Hakim of Wexford, PA, who started the final table as the number 2 short stack, would raise all-in before the flop with A/9. Men called the all-in with A/K, and after a flop of 6/4/9, he hit a K on the turn and a 5 on the river, leaving Jeff with 2nd place collecting $103,732.
