Tournament Report
Gerardo Felix Takes Down Split Games Event
The 2009 Mini Series of Poker continued with Event #9, a $170 buy-in Stud Hi/Lo and Omaha Hi/Lo tournament. A field of 80 players vied for a share of the $11640 prize pool. Final table play began at level 16 of Omaha Hi/Lo with blinds at 4K-8K playing 8K-16K. Gerardo Felix was the chip leader with 157,000 of the 560,000 chips in play.
Our first elimination came on the 1st hand of the final table when Jay Johnson was all-in for his remaining chips with Ac-3c-5-8 against Lance Brukman’s As-A-7s-10. The board came 4-10s-6s-4s-Js giving Brukman an Ace-high flush sending Johnson out in 8th place earning him $350.
Couple hands later Alex Dimitrov put his last chips in with A-Q-Q-9 and was up against Gerardo Felix’s A-K-7-3. Dimitrov was ahead when the flop came 5-10-4. However the turn came a King giving Felix a pair of Kings. The river brought a deuce making Felix a bicycle eliminating Dimitrov out in 7th place for $465.
On hand #5 Henry Ferguson had his last chips in with 6-4d-3d-2 against Scott Samarel who held A-A-10-2. The flop of 6-8-7d gave Samarel the nut low. The turn brought the 8d giving Ferguson a straight draw. The river was a King as Samarel’s pair of Aces for high and A-2 for low sent Ferguson out in 6th place for $580.
After a few hands discussion of a deal was brought up amongst the remaining 5 players. Each player agreed to look at a chip count. After the tournament staff ran the numbers the players accepted their prize amounts. Gerardo Felix was the chip leader at this point and was named winner of event #9.
