Tournament Report

Angelo Perera Short Stack to Chip Leader

Event #10 of the Deepstack Mini Series was the second Multi-Rebuy event with a $20,000 Guaranteed prize pool. 144 players bought in and collectively purchased 239 rebuys and add-ons. The prize pool grew to $37,151 and the 144 player field depleted to 10 final table players by 12:45am (start time: 4pm).

Hand #8 was a puzzling pot with three-way action to the flop. Ben Peel accidently min-raised to 16K from early position, John Rosenwald overcalled and Angelo Perera pushed all-in for another 53K. Both Ben and John called to see the flop. The flop came 5-4-2 and it was checked around. The turn 4 checked around again. The river Ace had Ben check and John push all-in with a empty side pot. Ben folded and John showed his Jd-7d for Jack high. Angelo took the pot with his pocket Queens.

Hand #11 had both John and Ben all-in prefop. Ben showed K-10 and John held A-J. The board was 7-5-2-9-4 and was no help to Ben Peel. John took the pot with Ace high and Ben Peel was eliminated in 10th place and earned $650.

Hand #13 had three players to the flop with shortstack Henry Minasyian all-in. Audley Harrison and John Rosenwald saw the flop and turn before Audley bet out (9-6-2-J) and John folded. Audley showed K-J and Henry was drawing dead with K-5. Henry Minasyian finished in 9th place and collected $745.

Hand #15 had John Rosenwald calling the all-in of Michael Chhor. John showed Q-J and Michael held A-10. The rag board fell 5-4-3-5-6 and the Michael’s Ace plays and takes the pot. John Rosenwald was eliminated in 8th place and earned $835.

Hand #23 had Walter Adler all-in with 8c-8s against Michael Chhor’s Kh-Jd. The flop was three diamonds Xd-Xd-Xd the turn was the Jh and the turn was the 4th diamond on the board. Michael Chhor gets the flush and Walter Adler was eliminated in 7th place for $930.

Hand #27 had Alexi Dimitrov all-in with J-10 and was called by Alex Ye holding Ad-2d. The flop was 7d-6d-5c and Alex Ye had the lead. The turn 10 moved Alexi to the front but the river Kd gave Alex the flush and the pot. Alexi Dimitrov finished in 6th place taking home $1,300.

Hand #32 had Brian Hunnel calling all-in with an A-9 against Alex Ye’s A-K. The flop was K-J-5 and Brian needed runner-runner. The turn 10 put the hand to rest (river 4 for those who must know). Brian Hunnel finished in 5th place collecting $1,670.

At about 3am on hand #60, Audley Harrison was all-in with pocket 3s against Angelo Perera’s K-Q. The flop was K-10-5 and Angelo had Audley drawing to two outs. The turn Ace and river 4 were bricks for Audley. Audley Harrison finished in 4th place and collected $2,230 for his night’s work.

Just as blinds increased to 5K 15K/30K, the final 3 players took a look at a chip count deal and after some lengthy discussion, agreed on a deal. Angelo Perera was the current chip leader with about twice as many chips as each of his opponents and was declared the winner.

BIOGRAPHY

Angelo Perera works in a local hospital for the last two years and has been playing poker for about 4 years. He plays both cash games and tournaments and learned how to play when he was dragged into some home games by his friends. Angelo was severely short stacked with two tables to go and he picked his spot and tripled-up before the final table. His assessment of the final table was that the last five players were very tough and he respected the play as the table got shorter.
