Tournament Report
Roberto Flood Takes Down Limit Hold’em Event
Event #5 of the 2009 Legends of Poker was the $335 Limit Hold’em tournament. This was a 2-day event that started with a total of 147 players vied for a prize pool of $42,777. In addition to first prize of $16,042, the winner also received a championship ring. Final table play began with blinds at 4-8k playing 8-16k. Allen Kim arrived as the chip leader holding 463,000 of the 1,617,000 chips in play.
After a round of hands have been dealt, Robert Goldfarb had the last of his shortstacked chips in with Ad-8d. He was up against Bill Williams’ A-K. Both players paired their Ace when the flop came 5-A-5d. The turn brought the 10d giving Goldfarb a flush draw. However the river came a 10h as Williams’ King kicker played and sent Goldfarb out in 10th place for $750.
This was a fairly tight final table, as we did not see another elimination until hand #36 when Aurelio Buluran made a stand with A-Q against Bill Williams’ pocket Jacks. After the board came 2-2-5-K-8 as Williams eliminates another player in Buluran who finished in 9th place for $850.
Hand #61 saw Qin Li all-in with 9-7 against Dale Burner’s A-J. Both players made a pair on the J-7-Q flop. The turn 10 and river 6 did not improve Li’s hand as her pair of 7’s was bested by Burner’s pair of Jacks sending her out in 8th place for $960.
A round later Cheryl Kaufman, who survived a few all-ins during her stay at the final table, put her last chips in from the small blind with J-8 against Dale Burner who was in the big blind with pocket 7’s. Kaufman took the lead when the flop came 8-10-A giving Kaufman a pair of 8’s. The turn came a 9 giving both players an up and down straight draw. The river came a Jack giving Kaufman two-pair but also giving Burner a Jack-high straight that sent Kaufman out in 7th place for $1,070.
On hand #75 Rong Lam was all-in with K-9 against Bill Williams’ K-J. Both players paired their King when the flop came K-5-4. The turn brought a 7 and the river came a 10 as Williams’ Jack kicker with his pair of Kings sent Lam out in 6th place for $1,495.
Just a few hands later Eric Chhor, who became short stacked after losing a big pot when his flush lost to a larger flush, had his last chips in with 10-3. Roberto Flood and Dale Burner were involved in a side pot with Flood betting all the way when the board came 5-3-2-10. When the river came a 4 Burner led out and Flood folded. Burner held A-9 for the 5-high straight eliminating Chhor out in 5th place for $1,925.
Allen Kim had raised pre-flop with A-10 and put his last chips in on a flop of K-K-5. Bill Williams held K-8 good for trip Kings. The turn brought a 3 and river came an Ace as Williams sent another player out in Kim who finished in 4th place earning him $2,565.
The three remaining players discussed a chip count deal. At this point Roberto Flood had 775k, Dale Burner with 460k and Bill Williams with 365k. After the staff ran the numbers the players were in agreement thus ending the tournament as Roberto Flood was declared winner.
