Bullwhackers/Bullpen Casino Poker Room Colorado Poker Championship Tournament Awards $29,400 In Prize Money
By Michael Jensen
Total Prize money of $29,400 was awarded at the conclusion of the Bullwhackers/Bullpen Casino Poker Room first annual Colorado Poker Championship Tournament .
Eighty-one players were in their “go” positions on October 3rd at the 7:00PM start time after making a $220 buy-in. Players were permitted two optional $100 rebuys as the competition proceeded.
While the tournament was scheduled to be a one evening event, the field had only been narrowed to 5 players when the night ended at 1:35AM necessitating a continuation of the action the following evening.
Thursday night the players were quickly reduced to two contestants. Steve Rogowski played head to head with Kelley Wilson for close to an hour competing for the title, prize money, a one of a kind Colorado State Poker Champion Jacket and engraved trophy.
Both players seemed deadlocked with an equal number of chips when all of a sudden it was an all-in bet and a call. At the end of the hand Steve Rogowski was the new Bullwhackers/Bullpen Casino Colorado State Poker Champion.
While Rogowski took home the trophy and unique jacket, the three final players had already agreed to a distribution of the jackpot First, Second and Third place prize money. Rogowski and Wilson each took home $7,981 while the third place finisher, Loyd Bullock, walked away with $5,500.
Bullwhackers/Bullpen Casino is the only Black Hawk Casino that hosts poker tournaments. The Poker Room conducts regular tournaments every Tuesday and Thursday evening when First place prize money runs between $1,100 and $2,300. Special tournaments, such as this one, are held between five and six times a year.
In an effort to hold and promote larger tournaments and to avoid potential scheduling conflicts the Midnight Rose Casino in Cripple Creek and Bullwhackers/Bullpen Casino alternate hosting large tournaments such as this one. As a service to players, the two poker rooms work together to promote each other’s tournaments as well.
