Tournament Report
| KATHERINE HARTNEY TAKES THE TROPHY!
Katherine Hartney of Peabody, MA, was the big winner in today’s $500 No-Limit Hold’em event.
With 843entries (only 10 fewer than last Sunday), the prize pool totaled $423,500 and Katherine took home a
first place prize of $85,420 to go along with the crystal trophy and leather jacket. Total entries for the World
Poker Finals 2004 edged over 7000 to 7109, with a total prize pool of $3,618,200!
Katherine’s chip count entering the final table put her in 3rd but she quickly improved her position.
Her K’s versus the J’s of Tuna Lund, Sparks, NV, left him in 10th spot. She won large pots from Men “The
Master” Nguyen, Bell Gardens, CA, Mizra Nagji, New York, NY, and Keith Lazzaro, Aurora, OH. Robert
Dow, New Hartford, CT, had to settle for 9th when his Q’s lost to Katherine’s K’s. Michael D’Auito, Shelton,
CT, was forced all-in with a Q3 which Katherine called with 86 suited; Michael wrapped up 8th when 7910
came on board. Chris Bjorin, London, Eng, went all-in with A4 but was unfortunate to face AA from Chris
Tsiprailidis, Liverpool, NY and took 7th when he could not improve. Keith Lazzaro had a pair of 5’s and was
looking good against James Donchess, Nashua, NH, but James paired his J on the river and Keith was in 6th.
Men “The Master” could not equal his win in the Seniors Championship and had to settle for 5th. Mizra Nagji,
with KK to Men’s J10, filled on the river (10K9QQ) to overcome The Master’s straight. James Donchess
thought he had stayed alive with 8’s and 6’s against an A5 suited, but when the club flush came on the river,
Katherine had eliminated James and relegated him to 4th position. Mizra was the 3rd place finisher when his J’s
could not compete with Chris Tsiprailidis’s Q’s; Mizra took home $37,395 for his efforts.
Katherine entered the heads up play with Chris with a commanding chip lead. She wasted little time
taking most of his chips and the final confrontation pitted her K9 versus his A5; when the board came 39K53,
Katherine was the $500 No-Limit Champion! Chris was able to take comfort with 2nd place money of $55,902.
CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THE WINNERS! |
